Our History


AIKIDO AIKIKAI ASSOCIATION, NEPAL (AAAN)

The Aikido Aikikai Association, Nepal (AAAN) is the only organization in Nepal that is affiliated with Aikido Aikikai World Headquarter, Japan. The AAAN has been conducting International Aikido Training Seminars annually since 2017 with the gracious presence of Makoto Ito Shihan (6th Dan), the Technical Director for the AAAN from the Aikido Aikikai Headquarter, Japan.

 

Sensei Arjun Shrestha is the pioneer to introduce Aikido in Nepal, who presented his first demo in 2008 and began providing classes. Then, he established the first independent dojo in Pokhara in 2012. The AAAN now conducts Self-defence workshops for all the interested public. The aims of these workshops are to provide safety awareness lessons, self-defense training and promote self-confidence.

ARJUN SHRESTHA SENSEI

  Sensei Arjun Shrestha, the 5th Dan, the Director of the AAAN, is a retired Officer from Gurkha Contingent, Singapore Police Force (GC, SPF).  The Martial Arts lover joined the Wado-Kai Karate in his young age in Nepal before he went to Kyokushin-Kai (Mas Oyama) Karate in Singapore in 1991 and won the Gold Medal for the Singapore Championship - 1994 (Open Category). Being the Singapore Champion of the year, he represented the country to the 6th All Asian Open Full Contact Karate Tournament that held in Kathmandu.

As a Peace and Harmony Seeker, he discovered Aikido Aikikai matching to his interest.  He took no time to join this Martial Arts and ultimately obtained the 5th Dan Black Belt from the Headquarter, Japan. He has attended training and seminars including the International Aikido Federation (IAF) Congress in Japan and International Training Seminars in New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and UAE. Sensei Shrestha has excellent skills not only in Aikido Aikikai but also in other multiple forms of Martial Arts and holds the 1st Dan Black Belt in Kyokushin-Kai Karate from Japan. He is also an outstanding Guro in United Arnis Eskrima Kali and Pekiti-Trisia Kal and an excellent player of Yagyu Shingan Ryu, Zendo-Kai Karate & Kick Boxing, Krav-Maga, Silat Suffian Bela Diri (SSBD – Brunei martial Arts) and Filipino martial arts Tabimina Balintawak.

Regarding controlling the arms, Guro Shrestha is trained for Edged and Impact Weapons Tactical Combat that is worldwide valid in Military and Law Enforcement (conducted by Tuhon Rommel P. Tortal, Chief Tactical Instructor) Pekiti-Tirsia Kali - Global Grand Alliance and has been appointed as the Director for Pekiti-Tactical Association, (USA) for Nepal by Tuhon Jared Wahongi. Sensei Shrestha is also a Tactical Baton Instructor for Armament Systems and Procedures (ASP) extendable baton and Tactical Metal Handcuffs Instructor from the USA. Sensei Shrestha is also one of the Founders of Unarmed Tactics (UT) for GC, Singapore Police Force.
